Entering Lent, Encountering Jesus

Road-to-the-CrossToday is the first day of Lent, the church season before Easter where we journey with Jesus to the cross. Here at Morden Mennonite Church we will be “Encountering Jesus” through Lent, stepping into the sandals of people like Peter, and Mary, and Bartimaeus, who had life-changing encounters with Jesus on their own journeys to the cross.

This past Sunday I issued a challenge for Lent: read through the Gospels, starting with Mark, then Matthew, then Luke, then John. If you read two chapters a day, you can get through all four Gospels during Lent with some days to spare along the way.

What do you say? Are you up for the Lent Gospels Reading Challenge? Mark 1-2, here we go: “The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God…”
