Welcome to our online worship service! We are glad you have joined us.
Today’s worship service is a bit different than usual. We have been asked to host the Mennonite Church Canada worship service for this Sunday, and so we have produced a video service that can be more easily shared with others. Thank you to all who have helped put this special service together, and a hearty welcome to our siblings in Christ from across our nationwide community of faith!
If you would like to print off the order of service with song lyrics you can do so here. Or, if you just want the song lyrics, they are given below.
Gathering Song: Clothe Ourselves with Love
Feeling broken before you, hollow hearts that seek your face
Our reaction is anger, trying hard to hide the pain
Help us! Clothe ourselves with love, remember to be patient
Seek to understand, our minds can be open
Hold each other’s hands, we’re all of one body
God so loves this world, we are made for unity
Gardens blooming with new life, tender smiles that fill our souls
Is this where we will find you? Hidden here, among us all?
Jesus! Clothe us with your love, remind us to be patient
Help us understand, our minds can be open,
Hold us in your hands, diff’rence in one body
You so love this world, you made us for unity
Our world, gripped with injustice, cannot hold it on our own
Follow the footsteps of Jesus, as we walk each other home
Prayer Song: HWB 377 Healer of Our Every Ill
Healer of our ev’ry ill, Light of each tomorrow,
give us peace beyond our fear, and hope beyond our sorrow.
You who know our fears and sadness,
grace us with your peace and gladness.
Spirit of all comfort, fill our hearts.
In the pain and joy beholding
how your grace is still unfolding,
give us all your vision, God of love.
Give us strength to love each other,
ev’ry sister, ev’ry brother.
Spirit of all kindness, be our guide.
You who know each thought and feeling,
teach us all your way of healing.
Spirit of compassion, fill each heart.
Sending Song: Kindness
Christ has no body here but ours
No hands no feet here on earth but ours
Ours are the eyes through which he looks
On this world with kindness
Ours are the hands through which he works
Ours are the feet on which he moves
Ours are the voices through which he speaks
To this world with kindness
Through our touch, our smile, our listening ear
Embodied in us, Jesus is living here
Let us go now, inspirited
Into this world with kindness
We really enjoyed and appreciated your worship today. The picture of The Law of Moses was very well done and is a balance we need to hear more of. I think some of us are more influenced by the
‘Old Testament’ version of a judgmental God than we’d like to admit and so we may see Jesus’ and Paul’s words against the Pharisees and Judaizers more negatively than they might have been said. On the other hand, we know the Spirit sometimes really has to shake things up. As for Paul, sometimes those who are zealously into something as he was into Judaism, go overboard in their zeal against it when they leave it, as He might sound like. A little like former smokers being more harsh against smoking than those ho never have. But we still see the love and anguish of Paul for the Jews in Romans 9-11.
Your rainbow caught our eye too. I wish our congregation was there. If I remember right, Michael Pahl, you were one for more inclusivity back at the time of the 2016 assembly, no? Good to see your inclusivity. And an Anglican priest! We have a Rome-trained Catholic priest (former, from Sri Lanka) in our congregation who, with his wife, is a very good friend of ours.
I saw my old friend Walter Wiebe there too.
And your children’ story. Way cool. Worth a Youtube airing of its own. Seriously.
Shalom!
